GIF QuantumER™
Quick links: GIF Quantum GIF QuantumSE GIF QuantumER GIF QuantumERS
The GIF QuantumER™ imaging filter combines the best features of an energy filter with those of a dedicated EELS spectrometer. It is ideally suited to serve as the primary detector system for most analytical TEM/STEM system. Its high spectral resolution is well matched to cold-FEG and most monochromated microscopes while the microsecond shutter and high-speed detector take full advantage of the high beam current of a Schottky emitter. The 2.5mm & 5mm standard spectroscopy apertures of the GIF QuantumER™ imaging filter support the high collection angles required for atomic column resolution EELS analysis, and the 1000 spectra per second, high-speed EELS acquisition mode means you can make use of every electron that hits the sample. A full 500x500 EELS spectrum image can be acquire in less than 5 minutes!
The GIF QuantumER™ excels as an imaging filter. The 9mm entrance aperture provides an excellent field-of-view while the 5th order aberration correction keeps the total energy variation below 2eV over that view. The overall effect is a profound simplicity of operation on any TEM system. By applying third order correction, the total image distortion added by the image filter can be reduced to negligible levels.
The GIF QuantumER™ imaging filter is suitable for use with many high-energy resolution electron sources. However, these systems require careful site selection and environmental testing. Additional installation time is required.

Base Configuration
Hardware
The basic instrument consists of a GIF QuantumER™ imaging filter with a 2kx2k CCD detector, an entrance flange, computer controlled BF/DF detector, pneumatic aperture assembly, electron optics assembly, computer controlled slit, and all standard EELS/EFTEM software mentioned in the following paragraph. Where required, a high performance computer workstation is supplied (See Recommended Computer worksheet for details). For full analytical STEM support, see the model 777 STEMPack product, which includes all the software and hardware required for STEM spectrum imaging.
Software
The GIF QuantumER™ series imaging filters are supported via GMS 1.9, which is exclusive to the GIF Quantum™ series, and the new streamlined AutoFilter® for GMS 1.9 software interface. GMS software licenses for GIF operation, system tuning, and EFTEM/EELS data acquisition and analysis are included with each GIF Quantum™ imaging filter purchase. This includes drivers and basic GIF and camera operation software, AutoFilter tuning, EFTEM mapping and quantitative analysis of EELS spectra. The GIF QuantumER™ imaging filters comes standard with licenses for basic Gatan EFTEM spectrum image data acquisition and analysis.
